Situated amidst the Indian Ocean in Seychelles, this spectacular island is located around 700 miles from Mahíé. The islands are a part of the outer islands of the Seychelles. The atoll is the second largest in the world. It is spread over an area of around 155.4 square kms. The lagoon is spread over an area of 22 square kms. Around two thirds of the area becomes dry after low tide.

Aldabra Island is made up of four larger islands namely South Island, Malabar or Middle Island, Polymnieli Island and West Island or Picard. Apart from these, there are around 40 smaller islands in the atoll. The ideal time of going to the Aldabra Island is between the months of October and March. The region mostly experiences sea side climate with warm and humid summers and pleasant winters.
Aldabra Island, Seychelles is home to a wide range of flora and fauna. The sandy islands of the atoll make the place an ideal habitat for giant tortoises. Around 100,000 giant tortoises are found here. Apart from these the islands are also home to other tortoise species like hawksbill turtles and green turtles. Plenty of other marine animals like hammerhead sharks, mantarays, barracuda and other species are found here.

The Aldabra Island is also home to a number of bird species. The vegetation in the island supports the habitat of Aldabra rail, which is the last surviving species of flightless birds in the Indian Ocean.
