La Digue is a tropical paradise waiting to be explored. La Digue in Seychelles is an exquisite Indian Ocean Island with white sandy beaches, studded with pink granite rocks and swaying coconut groves and the entire island surrounded by clean turquoise blue water. During sundown, the sight of the granite boulders turning pink with the clear blue waters as its backdrop creates an everlasting impression. The serenity of the beaches together with the pathway through coconut palm plantations add to the ethereal charm of La Digue Island.

Discovered in 1744, La Digue was named as such by Dufresne in 1768. Compared to other Seychelles Islands like Mahe or Praslin, La Digue is sparsely populated and very peaceful. This is the perfect place to get away for an ideal rejuvenating and relaxing vacation. There are only around twenty motorized vehicles in this heavenly island of about two thousand inhabitants.

Activities in La Digue

Explore this verdant island on an 'ox-taxi' as cars are very few and are not recommended. On an 'ox-taxi' discover the coconut plantations and the numerous mud or sand tracks. You might also hire a mountain bike and continue exploring the island. Anse Source d'Argent beach is undoubtedly the primary attraction of this island. Take a lazy stroll down the white sandy beaches and enjoy the balmy sea breeze, or just lay is the shades of the coconut groves.

Make time to visit L'Union Coconut Plantation which is a museum demonstrating techniques of coconut processing. The Yellow House is a landmark of this island which you must not miss. Whether you are a bird watcher or not, the black paradise flycatcher would certainly fascinate you. Endemic to Seychelles, the male of this bird species is characterized by stunning tail feathers.
