The Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in the East African region in Uganda and is spread over an area of 331 square kms. The park is situated on the edge of the Western Rift Valley amidst the high regions of the Kigezi Highlands. The park has a rugged landscape with steep mountains, narrow valleys, steams and deep gorges. Rwamunyonyi Hill is the highest point in the national park.
The Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is famous for its diverse wildlife. The tropical vegetation in the park provides an ideal habitat for around 120 species of mammals, 346 species of birds, 202 species of butterflies and insects, 27 species of reptiles and amphibians.
The Bwindi Impenetrable National Park ranks among the few national parks which are home to a wide range of apes and primate species. The forest consists of an abundance of colobus monkeys, chimpanzees, baboons. Around half of the population of mountain gorillas is found here. The national park is the habitat for around 4 groups of gorillas like Mubare, Habinyanja, Rushegura and the Nkuringo group. Active conservation efforts are being taken by the Uganda Wildlife Authority to protect the critically endangered mountain gorilla.

Some well known bird species that dwell in the park are Short-tailed Warbler, Yellow-eyed black Fly-catcher, Rusty-faced woodland Warbler, Kivu Ground Thrush, Dusky Crimson Wing, White-tailed Blue Monarch and other species.
