Israel Museum is one of the leading art and archaeology museums in the world. The largest cultural institution in Israel, the Israel Museum is the destination for you if you are an ardent lover of history and archaeology. Founded in 1965, Israel Museum has got enviable encyclopedic collections including the most extensive holdings of biblical archaeology, Judaica, fine art, ethnography, artifacts from Far East, North and South America, Africa and Oceania, ancient glass and sculpture, rare manuscripts and the Holy Land archaeology. Located on the hill in the Givat Ram neighborhood of Jerusalem in Israel, the Israel Museum has got a lot in store for you.

Visiting Israel Museum

The Israel Museum has got an enviable collection. As you start visiting the museum, the first thing that would attract you the most is the Dead Sea Scrolls. Housed in the Shrine of the Book, it is the oldest biblical manuscripts in the world dating back from the 2nd century BCE to the 1st century CE. It includes books of the Hebrew Bible and some other non-canonical texts. There are also some rare early medieval manuscripts of the Bible as well as an auditorium and an information & study center.

The Second Temple Era model of Jerusalem is another attraction of the Israel Museum. It reconstructs the topography and architectural character of the city. Another attraction of Israel Museum is its wonderful Billy Rose Art Garden. It is one of the finest sculpture gardens of the twentieth century. One can experience the synthesis of different cultures here including the cultures of Far East, the Near East and the West. You can see the works by some great sculptures like Pablo Picasso, Henry Moore, Menashe Kadishman, James Turrell, Claes Oldenburg and Auguste Rodin etc.

Israel Museum has got several galleries waiting to be explored by the visitors. The galleries include Archaeology Wing, Juadica and Jewish Ethnography, Art Wing, Youth Wing, Art Garden, Shrine of the Book, Ticho House and Rockefeller Museum.
