Bregenz Festival is an annual event held over a month from 3rd week of July to 3rd week of August. This summer festival of Austria is a fantastic event of classical music, operas, and theatrical shows. It brings in the leading production houses and theater companies to this vibrant town for a grand month long event. Primarily an opera festival, Bregenz Festival in Austria is an excellent platform for young performers to show their talents. In 2009 Bregenz Festival is scheduled to be held between 22nd July and 22nd August.

Bregenz Festival is spread over two stages: the Festpielhaus or traditional opera house, and the Seebuhne or Lake Stage under the open sky. This Lake Stage hosts the most innovative and spectacular shows. Verdi's 'Un ballo in maschera' in 1999 and 2000, and Puccini's 'La boheme' in 2001 and 2002 were among the magnum opera shows hosted by Seebuhne Lake Stage.

Bregenz Festival Program

The Floating Stage or Seebuhne is the center of attraction of this one-month long festival. 'Aida', a four-act opera play by Giuseppe Verdi has been scheduled in the floating stage. Aida is a portrayal of the strength of love over death with connotations to nationalism and hatred of enemies. 'King Roger' by Karol Szymanowski is a three act opera to be staged in the Festival Theater or Festpielhaus. This is a depiction of the conflict between Christian asceticism and joyous expressions of life.

Orchestral Concerts are an integral part of Austria's Bregenz Festival. Vienna Symphony Orchestra and Vorarlberg Symphony Orchestra are scheduled to perform in this festival. Vienna Symphony Orchestra would play compositions by Wolfgang Mozart, Karol Szymanowski, Fredric Chopin, and Richard Wagner. Vorarlberg Symphony Orchestra are scheduled to play compositions by Maurice Ravel, Karol Szymanowski, and Leos Janacek.
