Salzburg Festival is an immense canvas for the performing artists like Musicians, orchestras, dramatists, and opera singers from all part of the globe to exhibit their talents. Salzburg festival 2011 will be celebrated in the month of July and August( 27 July -30 Aug) and is a significant event in the cultural world map. In Salzburg, this festival carries immense importance to the cultural life of the local inhabitants. Starting off as Salzburg Mozart Festival it subsequently included drama and opera and much more.

History

The history of Salzburg Festival in Austria or Salzburger Festspiele goes back to 1887on the 100th anniversary of 'Don Giovanni'. Its conductor Hans Richter expressed the idea of holding an annual musical festival highlighting classical music. Thereafter, in 1919 Max Reinhard and Hugo von Hoffmannthal drafted their idea of holding regular musical festivals promoting operas, and dramas. Accordingly, in 1920 'Dompatz' was performed for the first time. In 1922, Hellbrunn festival hall was opened as a permanent venue for Salzburg Festival. Conductors of the caliber of Karl Boehm, Wilhelm Furtwangler, and Arturo Toscanini have performed in Austrian Salzburg Festival.
Salzburg Festival 2011

Time: Salzburg Festival 2011 is scheduled from 27th July to 30th August.
Venue: Salzburg festival will take place in many places. Majorly the Grosses Festpielhaus, the House for Mozart and the Felsenreitscule form the festival district together with Cathedral Square and Kollegienkirche located 200 metres from them.
Tickets: All ticket orders will be accepted by Jan 10, 2011 directly via website or in writing directly to the ticket office of Salzburg Festival.

Direct sales of tickets will start from April 4 2011 subject to availability.

Salburg Festival Program:

Opening Ceremony:
Opening Ceremony of the Salzburg festival will commence on July 23 onwards.
July 23, 2011
07:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
The Festival will open with street theater, a Cathedral concert and "Fackeltanz" (torch dance) in Salzburg.
July 24, 2011
10:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.
Classical music concerts, theater, readings and autograph sessions, swing, jazz and much, much more at the Festival Halls and throughout Salzburg's city center.

Salzburg Festival 2011 - Concerts:

July 27 — August 30, 2011
The Fifth Continent and Mahler Scenes series are the key items on the 2011 concert program.
The Fifth Continent
Now in its fifth year, the eight-part concert series provides a juxtaposition of selected compositions from the last few decades. It covers the entire spectrum from Luigi Nono's monumental tragedy Prometeo and Morton Feldman's enigmatic opera Neither to Karlheinz Stockhausen's epochal cycle, Klavierstí¼cke (Piano Pieces) I - XI.
Mahler Scenes
2011 will mark the 100th anniversary of Gustav Mahler's death, prompting the nine-part concert cycle to focus on the Austrian composer, widely influential for the music and music theater of the 20th century.
