The original Devonshire Chatsworth House constructed in 16th century under the guidance of Crown Commissioner Sir William Cavendish and his wife Bess of Hardwick After the death of Sir William Cavendish his wife Bess completed the construction with a courtyard and four corner towers. The Chatsworth House that you see today was constructed by the first Duke of Devonshire between 1686 and 1701 under guidance of Dutch architect Talman and thereafter under Thomas Archer. Improvements to this building were done by the 6th Duke who added the North Wing and the Library between 1790 and 1858. The stables, bridge, and the Wyatville were added by Paine in 18th century. Extensive beautification of the gardens was done by 6th Duke under instructions of Joseph Paxton.

Visit to Chatsworth House

Begin your visit of the Charsworth’s House with the ‘Palace of the Peak’ with collections spanning 4000 years of European history. Artifacts from ancient Greek period to present day Britain would rejoice you. The Sabine Room with murals belonging to early 18th century, the Red Room West with paintings of three Lucian Freud portraits, and the Painted Hall with Felicity Aylieff Vase are stupendous. From March to October end you could visit the second floor and five state rooms.

The garden of Chartsworth House has always been a resplendent attraction. The sculptures of ‘Walking Madonna’, ‘Lion Woman’, ‘Moon Bean,’ ‘Figure of a Man’, ‘Hare jumping over curly bell’, ‘Elephant’, ‘Drummer’, and ‘Revelation’ are marvelous. Your kids would find the farmyards fun-filled with animals, spiral slides, and water plays. Cows, sheep, goat, pigs and horses together with their young ones are both educative and entertaining. The playground area with ropewalks, commando wire, and the tower is inspiring.
