They say, “It is a museum of the world, for the world”. It is the home to over seven million objects! Well, we are talking about the British Museum — one of the popular names in the preservation of human culture and history. One of the largest and most comprehensive museums in the world, the British Museum showcases the extensively illustrated and documented story of human culture throughout the world from its beginning to the present state.
Established in 1753 and opened to public for the first time on 15th January, 1759, the British Museum in London was primarily based on the collections of Sir Hans Sloane — the eminent physician and scientist. In the following years, the museum saw several expansions that resulted in the creation of a number of branches, starting with the British Museum of Natural History in South Kensington in 1887. The British Museum earned a unique feather to house both a national museum of antiquities and a national library in the same building when the current British Library building opened to the public here in 1997. British Museum is a great piece of attraction and cannot be missed, especially if you are the one who gets thrilled in exploring the history and culture.
