Located in the Cumbria County in the northwest of England, Lake District National Park is the largest national park of England with an area of 885 square miles. Besides providing arguably the best panoramic views in the country, Lake District National Park also has rich archeology, distinct settlement character and celebrated social and cultural roots that have made this national park a unique one. As the name suggest, Lake District National Park has plenty of lakes which are the biggest attractions of the park. Besides these, as the park also has several mountains, it is also a popular destination for the mountain lovers who often go for trekking and hiking here. Lake District National Park also has, within its area, 275 scheduled monuments, over 2,000 listed buildings and structures, 21 conservation areas and 9 registered parks and gardens.


Things to Do

Lakes are one of the biggest attractions of Lake District National Park. There are plenty of lakes that one can find here. The well-known lakes of this national park include Buttermere, Coniston Water, Derwent Water, Bassenthwaite Lake, Haweswater Reservoir, and Ullswater. Besides these, there are also Elterwater, Esthwaite, Ennerdale Water, Grasmere, Loweswater, Rydal Water, Thirlmere, Wast Water — the deepest lake of England and Windermere — the largest lake of England.

Though lakes act as a major attraction to the Lake District National Park, but its appeal is not limited to those only. You have several other activities to do here. Go for walking, cycling, climbing, canoeing, or else you can also go for bird watching, fishing or horse riding.

Coniston Boating Centre: This is the place where you can hire a boat 7 days a week from 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. and go for boating. There are several types of boat available here which include electric self-drive boat, rowing boat, and sailing dinghy. You can also go for canoeing and kayaking here.

Lake District Visitor Centre: Also visit the Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhole. It is the place where you will find wonderful gardens, adventure playground, exhibitions etc.

Whistlestop Tour: Whistlestop tour is a popular tour for the tourists, especially for those who are visiting the park for the first time. This tour covers the attractions like Derwentwater, Thirlmere, Ullswater, Grasmere, Windermere, Coniston Water, Langdale Valley, Wastwater, Northern Lakes and Bassenthwaite.
