Center of Pompidou in Paris is a landmark where written art, visual art and performing art intermingle to offer a glorious representation of French culture. Cinema screenings of feature and documentary kinds, music recitals, dance performances, concerts, and conferences keep the Center Pompidou ever busy. For book lovers there are bookshops and a library big enough for 2000 readers. Art lovers would be engrossed in the collections of contemporary art from entire Europe displayed in an art museum inside this building. Till its opening in 1977 nearly 200 million visitors have been to this cultural center in Paris.

Center of Pompidou locally termed Center Georges Pompidou is a steel superstructure with concrete reinforced floors designed by architect Richard Rogers and Renzo Piano. The construction of this fabulous building commenced in 1971 and was completed in 1977 by Ove Arup & Partners. The use of colored pipes is brilliantly done in designing this building. For electrical cables yellow encasings are used, and for all plumbing purposed green pipes are used. Blue ducts have been used for climate control inside the building. Constructed over a land of two hectares this seven level building has a total floor area of nearly 103300 square meters.

After opening of Paris Center of Pompidou it kept on drawing attention of visitors from all continents which caused large scale damages. From 1997 to 1999 this center was closed to public for renovation. After renovation was complete the building was re-opened in 2000 on 1st January.

Visit to Center of Pompidou

Center Pompidou remains open for your visit from 11 in the morning till 10 o’clock in the evening. The art museum remains open from 11 am till 9 pm with last admission at 8 pm. The art collection of 20th century and contemporary artists would amaze you. If you are encouraged by their modern art you could go for a training session at their Brancusi Workshop from Wednesday to Monday between 2 pm and 6 pm. Cinemas, concerts, and performances are organized regularly for your entertainment. In case you like to spend some time in solitude glancing through your favorite books, the library would serve your needs from 12 noon to 10 pm on weekdays and from 11 am to 10 pm on weekends.
