Place Stanislas in Nancy is a square which houses the residence of exiled Polish king Stanislas Leszczynski who in due course of time became the Duke of Lorraine. He conceived this square in Nancy to glorify and honor his son-in-law Louis XV the monarch of France. This royal Place Stanislas in one hand testifies the sanctity of the esplanade, and acts as the venue of all local festivities on the other. This glorious square with its imposing buildings all around has been adjudged a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This gorgeous square thought out by Stanislas Leszczynski was put to shape by a team of architects led by Emmanuel Híéríé. The construction of this foremost among all French squares got delayed as it had to overcome the objection of French military commander Marshal de Belle-Isle. Ultimately the plan which was thought of in 1737 was initiated in March 1752 and inaugurated in 1755 November.

The construction of Place Stanislas in France commenced with the statue of Louis XV dressed as a Roman general. During the French Revolution this statue was brought down and subsequently in 1851 a statue of Stanislas was erected in its place. To the south of the square lies the City Hall with its imposing structure built in Classical architecture. The coat of arms of both Nancy town and Stanislas is gloriously displayed above the min entrance to this City Hall. To the west of the square you would find the Fine Arts Museum which originally was the College of Medicine, and the Jacquet Dwelling. On the Eastern side the Opera House and Grand Hotel stand majestically. The northern portion has the passageway between Houssonville and Vaudemont Bastions still used by the military forces.
