The construction of Place Stanislas in France commenced with the statue of Louis XV dressed as a Roman general. During the French Revolution this statue was brought down and subsequently in 1851 a statue of Stanislas was erected in its place. To the south of the square lies the City Hall with its imposing structure built in Classical architecture. The coat of arms of both Nancy town and Stanislas is gloriously displayed above the min entrance to this City Hall. To the west of the square you would find the Fine Arts Museum which originally was the College of Medicine, and the Jacquet Dwelling. On the Eastern side the Opera House and Grand Hotel stand majestically. The northern portion has the passageway between Houssonville and Vaudemont Bastions still used by the military forces.
