The construction of Dromoland Castle was started somewhere between 15th & early 16th century. It is believed that the tower house of Dromoland Castle was erected by Thomas, the son of Shane Mac Anerheny. However, the construction of the castle was completed in 1835. At various times, there were at least three houses on this castle, known as Dromoland. Later, it became the residence of O'Brien family, who lived there for eight generation.
