The Blue Grotto, located on the north-western corner of the Capri Island, is a small sea cave with a tiny opening, just wide enough to get through a small rowboat. The most exciting thing about it is that, the entrance, only about 1 meter high, opens and closes with the tide. The cave with 54 meters length, 30 meters width, and 15 meters height, can have depth from 14 to 22 meters. Besides the famous crystal turquoise blue water, the cave is also known for another feature of its water. The water has a wonderful effect on submerged particles which appears to be silver in color due to the coloration and intense blue filter.
You need to enter into the cave on a tiny boat. You may almost need to lie down on the boat before you can enter through the tiny gateway of the cave. There will the darkness all around when you enter into the cave. Go 20-30 yards further ahead after entering the cave and turn back to be amazed by the astonishing blue effect of the water. The turquoise hues sparkling in the water and against the rocks are just amazing.
It is the best to enter into the cave when the sun is in its fullest glow and shines directly on the water outside the cave. Anytime between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. would be perfect for the visitor. It is also necessary to check the tides before you go for the trip as your entry to the cave will fully depend upon the tides. Trip to the cave cannot be possible during the adverse weather condition. You can find round trip boat from Marina Grande to the outside of the grotto. Then you need to hire a rowboat go enter into the cave. Besides visiting the cave, you can also go for a cruise around the Faraglioni Rocks.
