Often nature and human beings are pictured to be at loggerheads. However, when human approaches and appropriates nature with love and worshipful respect, the results prove to be more than just spectacular: they become sublime. Nothing proves the point better than Jameos del Agua — an incredible work of Lanzarote's local architectural hero, Cesar Manrique. Jameos del Agua is an unbelievable geological formation comprising mainly of a volcanic cave, salt lake lagoons, and a natural auditorium. This natural formation was beautified by Jesus Solo and Luis Morales between 1968 and 1987. With a cave bar-cum-restaurant, swimming .pool and auditorium, Jameos del Agua is a complete tourist destination. The pool, incidentally is closed for bathing: except that is, for the King of Spain.

Jameos del Agua in Lanzarote was formed from lava flows solidified at the base of Monte de la Corona volcano which erupted about three thousand years ago. A 'jameo' is formed when the ceiling of a tunnel collapses to form an enclosure or lake. The entrance of Jameos del Agua has been converted into a bar/restaurant accessed by a stone stairway. This restaurant or 'jameo chico' leads to 'jameo grande' or tropical garden through a passage and a lake. 'Jameito' a small blind albino crab is typical of Lanzarote and is fancy of all visitors. The 'jameito' crab is used as a monogram for Jameos del Agua. At the end of 'jameo grande' is an auditorium for 600 people and at the center is a vibrant crystal blue pool.
