The Dolder Grand is a landmark in Zurich which symbolizes neo-Classical architecture. It has the highest indoor swimming pool as per Guinness Book of records. Dolder Grand Hotel established in 1899 is an amazing combination of the architecture of Foster and Partners, spa layout by Sylvia Sepiella, and interior design by United Designers. The guests' list of this castle like hotel includes the powerful and the famous like Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, Henry Kissinger, Arturo Toscanini, the Shah of Iran, and the Rolling Stones.
Dolder Grand overlooking Lake Zurich is a secluded location on Zurichberg hill. You get the opportunity to spend a quiet holiday in spite of being in one of the busiest cities of Switzerland. On approaching this luxury hotel you are fascinated by the spires and overhanging carriage porch. Within seconds you are transported back by a couple of centuries. You are greeted by a marble hall with Corinthian columns of two ceilings height leading to a double flight stairway of 27 steps covered in red and cream colored carpets. As you climb the staircase you come across stained glass windows in the upper levels. When you set foot in the lobby on the upper floor you are awestruck by a giant Swarovsky crystal chandelier illuminating it.
Rooms of Dolder Grand
Surprises keep on adding when you put up in Dolder Grand Hotel in Zurich. All of their 173 rooms are spacious and have floor areas ranging from 460 square feet to 4000 square feet. The Carezza Suite on the top floor of Spa Wing is inspired by Swiss sculptor and artist Alberto Giacometti. The ceiling to floor windows creates an impression of vastness, and the organically shaped furniture and lighting systems are suggestive works of art. The farthest wall is all of glass and overlooks the private balcony and Zurich Lake and the stunning hill slopes beyond. The sidewalls give the illusion of a convex appearance, and illumination comes from lights concealed in ledges located at about ten feet high from the floor. Two walnut armchairs designed by Dominique Imbert and a suspended Scandinavian fire chimney are remarkable furnishings of Carezza suite.
Masina Suite, Suite 100, Suite Grand, Suite Deluxe, and Suite Superior are also there to be tried out. Apart from the suites any of the rooms from Double Deluxe, Double Superior, Junior Suite Grand, Junior Suite Deluxe, and Junior Suite Superior categories can be checked out.
The air-conditioning system of this exotic hotel is exceptional. Interior air-conditioning not only allows 20% fresh air to flow in, and vents in bedrooms can be opened to allow more outside air to enter.
