The Dolder Grand is a landmark in Zurich which symbolizes neo-Classical architecture. It has the highest indoor swimming pool as per Guinness Book of records. Dolder Grand Hotel established in 1899 is an amazing combination of the architecture of Foster and Partners, spa layout by Sylvia Sepiella, and interior design by United Designers. The guests' list of this castle like hotel includes the powerful and the famous like Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, Henry Kissinger, Arturo Toscanini, the Shah of Iran, and the Rolling Stones.

Dolder Grand overlooking Lake Zurich is a secluded location on Zurichberg hill. You get the opportunity to spend a quiet holiday in spite of being in one of the busiest cities of Switzerland. On approaching this luxury hotel you are fascinated by the spires and overhanging carriage porch. Within seconds you are transported back by a couple of centuries. You are greeted by a marble hall with Corinthian columns of two ceilings height leading to a double flight stairway of 27 steps covered in red and cream colored carpets. As you climb the staircase you come across stained glass windows in the upper levels. When you set foot in the lobby on the upper floor you are awestruck by a giant Swarovsky crystal chandelier illuminating it.
At the entrance floor, the swish doors which lead you to a new area with floor inscribed with the owner's name Urs Schwarzenbach in brass letters. Proceed along an S shaped corridor lined with floor-standing vitrines containing tasteful collections like Dior Jewelry or Sotheby's artifacts at intervals. The corridor leads to two wings, one leading to the health spa and the other to the elevators which are activated by pressing the room keycard on an activation panel. The elevators are of latest technology and comparable to the best in any modern office building.

Rooms of Dolder Grand

Surprises keep on adding when you put up in Dolder Grand Hotel in Zurich. All of their 173 rooms are spacious and have floor areas ranging from 460 square feet to 4000 square feet. The Carezza Suite on the top floor of Spa Wing is inspired by Swiss sculptor and artist Alberto Giacometti. The ceiling to floor windows creates an impression of vastness, and the organically shaped furniture and lighting systems are suggestive works of art. The farthest wall is all of glass and overlooks the private balcony and Zurich Lake and the stunning hill slopes beyond. The sidewalls give the illusion of a convex appearance, and illumination comes from lights concealed in ledges located at about ten feet high from the floor. Two walnut armchairs designed by Dominique Imbert and a suspended Scandinavian fire chimney are remarkable furnishings of Carezza suite.

The Maestro suite is another extraordinary creation inspired by Herbert von Karajan, the renowned conductor and composer. This two tier suite is located in the highest tower of the main building. You get an area of 4300 square feet to spread out and move around. The bathroom fittings are in gold and designed by Villeroy and Boch. The champagne in the mini bar is from Veuve Clicquont. You also get the privilege of using Riedel glassware.

Masina Suite, Suite 100, Suite Grand, Suite Deluxe, and Suite Superior are also there to be tried out. Apart from the suites any of the rooms from Double Deluxe, Double Superior, Junior Suite Grand, Junior Suite Deluxe, and Junior Suite Superior categories can be checked out.

The air-conditioning system of this exotic hotel is exceptional. Interior air-conditioning not only allows 20% fresh air to flow in, and vents in bedrooms can be opened to allow more outside air to enter.

The Dolder Grand Spa

The Spa in Dolder Grand is out of the world. This spa spread over 4000 square meters is a masterpiece created out of European and Japanese influences. Separate spas for ladies and gentlemen, Mind — Body and Movement studios, 19 treatment rooms, Spa Suites for exclusive use, and Workout section all add up to the Spa of Dolder Grand. Entry to this Spa is restricted to children over 12 years of age.

In the spa you can rejuvenate yourself by having a sauna or steam bath. Cold water basins and steam pots will enhance your facial appearance. Kotatsu footbath in a stream of warm water over pebbles and a hydro massage in an aroma pool are marvelous experiences. You can experience more of water treatments and therapies in the 'Aqua Zone'. From inside this Aqua Zone you will be delighted to view the picturesque outdoors. Indoor and outdoor whirlpools, steam bath and sunaburo give you thorough relaxation in Japanese tradition. A 'Snowparadise' has been specially set up for cooling off.

In the medical wellness center Swiss experts from Klinik Tiefenbrunnen and Aesthetic Link help to improve your appearance through anti-ageing treatments, aesthetic dermatology, and aesthetic and plastic surgery.

Dining at the Dolder Grand

You will be delighted to savor the recipes of 'The Restaurant' and 'Garden Restaurant'. Juices from just squeezed oranges kept at room temperature, banana slices, blueberries, natural yogurt and fried eggs served with Hollandaise sauce completes a wholesome breakfast. 'The Restaurant' offers a cozy and comfortable ambiance matched by an exclusive interior díécor and historic ceilings. It has to its credit 1 Michelin Star and 17 Gault Millau points. You are served lunch and dinner at this restaurant on all days except Mondays. From Tuesday to Friday lunch is served between 12 noon to 2 pm and dinner between 7 pm and 10 pm. On Saturday only dinner is served, and on Sundays lunch is only served here.

The Garden Restaurant is there to serve you every day from 6:30 in the morning till 11 o'clock in the evening. On Sundays brunch is offered between 11:30 am and 2 pm. You can also satiate yourself gastronomically in the Lobby or in the bar.
