France is the land of art, history and culture – the land of Renoir and Napoleon - the land of the sunny Riviera and delightful champagne. World leaders in art, culture, music and fashion, France has an enduring appeal for travelers. Officially known as the French Republic, this prominent west European country is bordered by Belgium and Luxembourg to the northeast, Switzerland and Germany to the east, Italy to the south-east and Spain to the south-west. France has long Atlantic Ocean coastline to its west, Mediterranean Sea to its south and the English Channel to its north. One of the strongest powers in the world, France is not only the largest country in the European Union, but also the second largest in whole Europe.

Weather

The weather of France has a lot of variety, and is temperate in nature. Most of the territory of the country including Paris has cool winters and mild summers. On the other hand, one can experience mild winters and hot summers along the Mediterranean and in the southwest part of the country. This part also sees lot of rainfall during the winter. The northwester part of the country experiences cool summers and mild winters with plenty of rains. The areas along the German borders experiences cool to cold winters and hot summers. You will find lots of snow during the winters in the mountainous regions like Alps, Auvergne and Pyrenees.

Transportation

Air: Roissy - Charles de Gaulle (CDG) is the main airport of France. Besides this, there are also a number of other airports including Paris – Orly, Bordeaux, Lille, Clermont-Ferrand, Marseille, Nice, Nantes, Toulouse and Lyon etc.

Train: SNFC, the railway company of France, has direct services to a number of destinations in various European countries. Eurostar has high-speed trains from Lille and Paris to London. There are also high-speed TGV trains from Thalys that take you from Paris to Brussels and many other cities in Germany and the Netherlands.

Bus: Erostar buses connect France with a number of major destinations throughout Europe and Morocco. There is hardly any national bus service. However, you can reach to various local destinations.
