Glacier

Glaciers have attracted so many travelers all over the world since the very early days. Glacier is the raw form of nature where a large ice is formed from compacted layers of snow, which slowly deforms and flows due to the gravity and high pressure. This ice is the largest fresh water reservoir on Earth. Mostly found in mountain ranges and polar regions with some distinct exceptions, Glaciers have a huge effect on the climate condition of an area and play a major role in water resources and sea level variation. Apart from the environmental values, Glaciers do also have aesthetic values that have been able to attract thousands of tourists since quite a long time.

Types of Glaciers

There can be various types of glaciers, though most of those can be divided into two types – Valley glaciers and Continental glaciers. Valley glaciers are relatively smaller in size and slowly flow down the valley in mountainous regions. On the other hand, Continental glaciers are relatively bigger. One can find several variations of glaciers. Ice sheets are the largest glaciers that can be found only in Antarctica and Greenland. One can also find ice shelves, ice streams, outlet glaciers and tidewater glaciers.

Popular Glaciers

There are plenty of glaciers on Earth. Some of them have become quite popular among the tourists. You can visit the wonderful glaciers like Aletsch Glacier in Switzerland, Franz Josef Glacier in New Zealand, Perito Moreno Glacier in Argentina and many more. There are also a number of national parks that house scintillating glaciers like Glacier National Park in Montana, USA, and Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park in Canada.
