Definitions
A gorge or canyon is a deep valley between cliffs. Most of them have been formed by a long time process of erosion from the plateau level. Gorge and Canyon are basically the same thing. However, 'gorge' is more common in Europe and Oceania, whereas the term 'canyon' is popular in the United States. On the other hand, fjords are long, narrow inlet with steep sides that can often be found in valley. Glacial activities are the reason behind the creation of fjords.
