Hong Kong in China is a city of surprises, exciting opposites, traditional conservancy and contemporary spontaneity.
History of Hong Kong
Hong Kong has evidence of life dating back 6,000 years. Along Hong Kong's shoreline ancient artifacts belonging to 4000 BC have been unearthed. Pieces of pottery with paintings or linear drawings have been excavated from stratified layers of rocks being excavated in this city. Archaeologists are of the view that these pieces belong to Neolithic period. After many years, during Qin dynasty from 221 – 206 BC and Han dynasty thereafter till 220AD, considerable migration from mainland China to Hong Kong had taken place. !5th century onwards increase in trade between China to Europe increased the importance of Hong Kong. The Portuguese were the first group of Europeans to have reached China.
British East India Company purchased landscaped furnishings and porcelain from China and sold opium. Sale of opium increased manifold which resulted in silver outflow from China. To stop this silver outflow opium trade was banned in 1841 which was one of the reasons of First Opium War. Yielding to British pressure, China officially handed over Hong Kong to the British Government under the Treaty of Nanjing in August 1842. Except for a small period from 1941 to 1945 when it was under Japanese occupation, Hong Kong was under British rule till 1997. In 1997 on July 1, Hong Kong was officially handed over to the People's Republic of China.

Dining and Accommodation
Hong Kong is considered to be the culinary capital of Asia. Recipes range from seafood, to dim sum preparations, Asian fare, and Western delicacies. Roast pork with steamed buns, steamed pork spareribs, and shrimp dumplings are some of the local favorites. Among the dim sum dishes, which are only served in Chinese bamboo baskets, pan-fried squid, beef balls and pork balls are to be tried. You could try out Indian, Japanese, Thai, Korean, and Vietnamese recipes among the Asian varieties available in Hong Kong. Dim sum is a Cantonese traditional culinary form, which perfectly blends with the Chinese tradition of 'yum cha' or 'drinking tea'. Che's Cantonese Restaurant, Chong Fat Chiu Chow Restaurant, and City Hall Maxim's Palace are among the famed Chinese restaurants in Hong Kong. For Asian dishes try out Chilli Fagara, Dia, and Hutong restaurants.
You could select from a wide range of Hong Kong hotels depending on your requirement for putting up. Royal Garden, Kowloon, Renaissance Harbor View, and Grand Hyatt are among the luxury category hotels. If you prefer to stay in a comfort accommodation you might choose from Stanford Hillview, The Fleming, City Garden, and Kimberley hotels.
