Mosque and Mausoleum


The mosque, or masjid in Arabic, is an Islamic place of worship. It is an institution to carry out the religious rites and rituals. The mosque is also a place where the Muslims gather to offer their prayers or “Salet” for their God. In the sixteenth and seventeenth century during the reign of Mughal empire Mosques were introduced in India. It was during the early twentieth century that the first mosques were built in the United States. Each Mosques have arrangements for the devotees to offer their regular prayer or “Salet”.

Muslims are required to pray five times a day and the Mosques have arrangements for that on a regular basis. On the event of the two large religious occasions among the Muslims such as Eid ul-Adha and Eid ul-Fitr, special prayers are held at mosques. Since the predominent ritual is to offer prayers in a group, the larger Mosques generally make arrangements for an accommodation of a large gathering. Some of the best mosques around the world bear testimonies to stupendous works of architecture.

The Makkah is the most important religoius site for Muslims from all over the world, followed by the Madinah. The Masjid-I Shah in Isfahan is one of the most beautiful mosques of the world with its sublime glazed tile decoration. The Great Mosque at Samarra in Iraq is a unique structure, and is an extremely popular tourist attraction. Some of the Mosques in India are very famous tourist attractions and allure a number of people including both devotees and tourists. Adhai-din ka jhonpra, Jamali Kamali, Jama Masjid, Moti Masjid, Taj -ul-Masjid, Quwwat-ul-Islam-Masjid are some of the Mosques visited by a number of people very year in India.

World Famous Mausoleums

A Burial chamber of a deceased person is known as a Mausoleum in the Muslim religion. It is a building standing as a monument and enclosing a burial of a famous religious priest or prophet. The Mausoleum is often considered to be a Tomb. Many famous Mausoleum are often visited by tourists and devotees across the world. Again a Christian Mausoleum can sometimes include a Chapel. Sometimes the Mausoleums bear the mark of rich historic background which attracts tourists and visitors. Some of the notable Mausoleum which are also famous tourist attractions are the Mastaba, Taj Mahal, Qianling Mausoleum in China, Mausoleum of First Qin Emperor etc. They keep on attracting tourists for not only their rich historical background but also because of their architectural excellence.
