A commercial water theme park located within “Riviera Maya” on the Caribbean coast of Quintana Roo in Mexico, about 120 km south of Cancun and 240 km north of Chetumal, Xel-Ha Water Park is set around the natural inlet and lagoon. Here the salty waters are mixing with fresh underground water currents to make it one of the main attractions of the park. The inlet, actually a natural aquarium, is the place where hundred of species inhabit including tropical fish and abundant of flora. There is also a turtle reserve inside the park which is dedicated to marine life and ecological maintenance studies. Tourists can swim and snorkel in the lagoon with a shark fence across its entrance. The other attractions that have made Xel-Ha Water Park a world-famous one include scuba diving and surely swimming with dolphins.
Things to Do
Xel-Ha Water Park is full of thrilling activities. Once you enter through the main entrance a whole range of water activities are in front of you. You either can go for snorkeling or scuba diving, or you can opt for the famous swimming with the dolphins. There is a small pond for kayaking as well. You can also take the pathway that will lead you to some bicycles or tram.
Swimming with Dolphins:
One of the largest attractions of Xel-Ha Water Park is the scope of swimming with the dolphins. There are two modes of dolphin program. In 'Interax' program, you get a chance to know the dolphins through contact and games, whereas the 'Primax' program consists of some additional activities including the popular 'foot-push'.
Interax: 01.15 p.m. / 03.00 p.m.
Primax: 10.00 a.m. / 11.00 a.m. / 02.00 p.m. / 03.30 p.m.
Xel-Ha Water Park is also a known place for snorkeling. It offers unique location to explore the underwater world. You will find 70 recorded species of freshwater as well as seawater fish including surgeonfish, parrotfish, yellowtails, jackfish, grunts, sergeant majors, snappers, stingrays, bonefish, doctorfish, chubs, and also barracuda. There are six snorkel equipment distribution centres in Xel-Ha Water Park located around the inlet. Instruments are distributed free of cost. Those who want to learn the art of snorkeling; there is also a snorkeling school inside the park.
Kayaking in the untouched areas of Xel-Ha is an enormous attraction to the visitors of Xel-Ha Water Park. Individual and twin navigation vessels are available.
