How to Reach:
Air:
If you are coming down by air, you need to land at Lafayette Regional Airport (IATA Code: LFT, ICAO Code: KLFT). A number of airline operators including American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and Northwest Airlines ply regular flights to this airport from most of the major US cities.
Car:
If you are coming down here by car from other parts of USA, you need to follow the following routes.
  • From the North: Take I-49 South to I-10. Go to east on I-10 and take Exit 109 to reach Breaux Bridge.
  • From the South: Take I-10 east from Highway 90 and take Exit 109 at Beaux Bridge.
  • From the West: Take I-10 East. Take Exit 109 to reach Breaux Bridge.
  • From the East: Take I-12 West from I-10 West to bypass New Orleans and rejoin I-10 West in Baton Rouge. You can also continue with I-10 West to go through New Orleans as well. After passing Baton Rouge, take Exit 109 to reach Breaux Bridge.
Entry Fee: $5.00 to $10.00 every day, or $15.00 for all three day.

Breaux Bridge Crawfish festival is nearly fifty years old now, and its popularity is steadily increasing with every passing year.

Breaux Bridge, a city in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana, has been known world-wide as the “Crawfish Capital of the World” since 1959 when the Louisiana Legislature officially designated the place as "la capitale Mondiale de l'ecrevisse".

In the very next year (1960), the famous Crawfish Festival started in Breaux Bridge which immediately got huge popularity not only among the Americans, but also among the people of abroad. Since its inception, Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival has been successful in bringing out the true essence of the Cajun heritage. Organized every year in the very first weekend of May, Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival becomes a celebration of life in south Louisiana with a wide variety of activities including games, rides, arts & crafts, Cajun music, cooking demonstrations and of course, the biggest attraction of the event — thousands pounds of crawfish.

One can find crawfish in its every form in Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival. You can check out a wide variety of crawfish dishes here in this festival. Also is there even crawfish eating contest. Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival is also the place for the famous Cajun musicians. Here you get the opportunity to listen to some of the most authentic Cajun, Zydeco, and Swamp Pop music. More than 30 bands perform in this festival. In 2009, the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival will be organized from May 1 through May 3.

Activities in Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival
Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival is the event that can be enjoyed in as many ways as one wants to. Be it the variety of crawfish, various cuisines, contents, games, music or any other means — you can enjoy this festival in your own style.

Cuisine:
As the name of the festival suggests, crawfish has to be one of the most dominating factors in Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival. Many visitors go gaga over a wide variety of cuisines made up of crawfish, which are available in the festival. Fried, boiled, bisque, boudin, in an íétouffíée — you will find the crawfish dishes in its every possible way.

Music:
This festival is one of the largest concentrations of renowned Cajun, Zydeco and Swamp pop musicians. More than 30 bands come here to perform on the three stages that are set during the festival.

Cajun & Zydeco Dance Contests:
If you want to learn a few new steps with Cajun and Zydeco music and want to find out how competent you are in that, you must go for the Cajun or Zydeco dance competition. Just fill up the registration form and submit it with the necessary fee ($10.00 for each competition — it may change from time to time). You can pay by cash, check, or through Visa/Mastercard. You can also mail the form to BBCF office.

Crawfish Races:
This is a race of numbered crawfishes which compete to win the race with the skillful help from their registered owners on an 8” circular target. In order to compete in the race, one needs to complete the registration form and submit it with the necessary fee ($5.00 or may change from time to time). You can pay by cash, check, or through Visa/Mastercard. You can also mail the form to BBCF office.

Crawfish Eating Contest:
In this competition, all competitors have to eat boiled crawfish as much as they can in the stipulated 45 minutes. The contestant who can consume maximum fish (measured by the weight of the boiled crawfish) wins the contest. The competition is organized in the Heritage Tent and is open to all.

Crawfish Etouffíée Cook-Off:
This contest is organized to find out who can cook the best dish. The showmanship displayed by the competitors is also quite interesting to see. In order to participate in the competition, you need to fill up the entry form and submit it with the necessary fee ($25.00 or may vary from time to time) by checks. You have to mail it to BBCFA office.

Admission
You can purchase for single day or for all the 3 days. The price of the ticket for the second day remains a bit higher than the other two days. One can get a discount of admission fee if he buys ticket in advance for all the 3 days. Only cash payment is accepted at the gate.

In 2009, the prices of tickets have been fixed as below:

1st May, 2009: $5.00 daily
2nd May, 2009: $10.00 daily

It is strongly recommended that everyone needs to book their accommodation well in advance if they wish to visit Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival. Visitors have the options to choose from two different kinds of accommodation available there. There are a number of hotels available in Breaux Bride and the surrounding areas, including Henderson, St. Martinville and Lafayette.
