Kauai, surrounded by sparkling blue waters of Pacific Ocean, is a tropical paradise among Hawaii Islands. Formed over six million years ago, it is the northernmost of the primary Hawaii Islands. The best way to enjoy a vacation in Kauai is to surrender yourself completely to the extraordinary charm of this tropical island.
Considering its size, the variety offered by Kauai in Hawaii is mind-boggling. At every turn you take, you would discover something amazing. The beauty of the mountain peaks and the beaches is incomparable. On its northern shore you would discover the Makana Peak locally termed as 'Bali Hai'. According to a local custom, local Hawaiians climb up to the peak and throw burning spears into the air, which ultimately land in the ocean. The Maniniholo Dry Cave about 300 meters deep, and the Waikapale and Waikanaloa Wet Caves are amazing geographical formations. In the northernmost point of the island, explore the Kilauea Lighthouse along with its adjoining Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge.

You would be awed to see a canyon on the western side of Kauai Island. Waimea Canyon of length ten miles and a depth of 3600 feet has been described as 'the Grand Canyon of the Pacific' by Mark Twain. On the western side you would also find Russian Fort Elizabeth constructed in early 19th century, and Captain Cook's Memorial built in the memory of renowned British explorer James Cook.

Activities in Kauai

In Hanapepe in west Kauai, witness the process of salt making from saltpans. From the western side if you travel towards South you would get the chance of visiting National Tropical Botanical Garden. While driving along Highway 583, the gorgeous Wailua Falls, a drop of almost 80 feet can just be a feast for your eyes. In the Coconut Coast discover the Bell Stone, which has a strange property of resonating all over the valley when struck sharply. On this coast also visit the Nounou Mountain, which resembles a sleeping giant lying on his back.

Exploring this marvelous island on horseback is a thrilling adventure. Among other land sports, golfing and of course hiking are the most popular. Water sports enthusiasts can indulge themselves in scuba diving, windsurfing, and fishing.
