Waterton Glacier International Peace Park in the southwestern corner of Alberta in Canada is a UNESCO World Heritage site. In this biosphere reserve surrender yourself to the natural grandeur of the imperious Rocky Mountains rising out of undulating prairies. Amongst these peaks of the Rockies the Waterton Lakes National Park is formed from ancient glaciers. The Waterton Lakes National Park together with the Glacier National Park in Montana forms the Waterton Glacier International Pease Park. In addition to astonishing landscapes, this National Park in Alberta is renowned for its outdoor activities. Characterized by mild climate, abundant wildlife, rarest flowers, and unusual geological features, Waterton Glacier International Pease Park is an outstanding location.
Waterton Glacier Peace Park has many things to offer both for those who love wildlife, and those who love outdoor activities. Mountainous terrains, challenging hiking trails and the chance of meeting a mountain lion are motivation for an adventure tourist. Glacier National Park is among the most pristine biospheres in North America and amongst the most revisited. A trek through the national park can become memorable by chancing upon a grizzly bear, wolves or mountain goats. It is advisable to keep on chatting, or tying tiny bells to your belt your shoes to keep these wild animals coming too near. The remoteness of Waterton National Park has been the main factor contributing to its serenity and purity.
Drive along 'Going-to-the Sun' Road, the most awe inspiring route in entire North America and with bated breath view the Continental Divide. Steep ascent followed by a similarly steep descent tests your stamina and nerves. The wildflowers all along the route are brilliant and unmatched. This particular road bisects the Waterton Peace Park into two distinct northern and southern halves.
It is not that you need a vehicle to enjoy the majestic views of Canada Waterton National Park. Hike in 'Lower 48', a well maintained trail of nearly 700 miles. The eastern drier slope of the Divide is more picturesque with alpine vegetation, while the southern slopes are remote and less visited. Hike the Dason-Pitamakan trail of the Continental Divide and explore the Dry Fork Drainage of this magnificent landscape. This trail of 16 miles begins at Two Medicine north shore and climbs to an elevation of nearly 2950 feet.
If you are enthusiastic enough, create tracks on the glaciers in the western slopes of the Northern Rockies. Hike along Upper Lame MacDonald Trail following the 'Going-to-the-Sun' Road for 8 miles. For an unforgettable skiing experience try the Autumn Creek Trailnear Marias Pass. However please be wary of avalanches.
Waterton Glacier International Peace Park also offers exciting rafting opportunity in the waters of Middle Fork and North Fork. Hundreds of rafters throng Middle Fork famous for its raging waters in all of Montana.
